NEW SERIES BY RICK RIORDAN!!!

ORDER THIS NOW BEFORE IT IS RELEASED TO BOOK STORES!!

"Since their mother’s death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives. Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them--Set--has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe--a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs. "

Movie and other stuff...

Hey CHB'ers!

I apologize for having to miss the movie the other week. As many of you know already, I was hit in my car by a "monster" of some sort. I think he got a "whif" of me through the mist and could sense my demi-god smells. Ugh. The monster came out of nowhere and totaled my car. I did walk away with some slight injuries, but nothing compared to what Percy faced after killing the Minotaur.

Anyways, please post what you thought about the movie! I liked the effects, but thought they left waaaaay too much out from the story! What a bummer!

Few things to take note of:

Meeting this week at The Big House - Room 1209 on Thursday, March 4, 2010
Bring treats if you can!
We will be making posters for our "action figures" and "Barbie dolls" based off of Greek heroes, Gods, Goddesses, and characters from the PJ series.

Be there! You don't want to miss out on this meeting!!!

Next Meeting

'Tis that time of year again
To come together as friends

The day is that in which we honor
The greatest god of all

Rain, lightning, thunder, hail
All that may fall

Known to us as Zeus
Or the famous god Thor

God of sky and thunder
In Roman, he is Jupiter

Come on this day
The first of the tenth

The place where we meet
Can you find it?

Don't get lost.
It's not the labyrinth!

Another Riddle

Hello!
I've got another riddle for everybody. Comment if you think you have the answer!!

In marble walls as white as milk,
Lined with skin as soft as silk,
Within a fountain, crystal clear,
A golden apple does appear.
No doors are there to this stronghold,
Yet thieves break in and steal the gold.
What am I?

This is one of the harder ones. But PLEASE guess!!!!
Oh, and please guess at the other riddle I posted on this blog.
Thanks!

At last....

As our first year of CHB comes to a close, I have a bittersweet feeling in my heart. While I will surely miss you all each Thursday, we had so many fun times and great memories from this year. And, we cannot forget about the summer kayak trip we have planned!!! Thank you to AO for helping get this set in motion!

I already have a TON of ideas for next year...games, secret symbols, Code of Honor, a CHB handshake, and many more activities. Please remember to do your best and be the best Demi-God you are.

Feel free to share any summer half-blood moments you may run across during the next three months. Keep your eyes peeled and free of the MIST...remember we see what most others cannot.

Oh, and be sure to keep checking this blog site! I have a few other [possible] summer activities lined up if we can make them all happen.

And can someone PLEASE help me to figure out what house/cabin I belong to?!?!?!?!

NOTICE THE DATE CHANGE!

WE CHANGED THE KAYAK TRIP FROM SATURDAY TO FRIDAY DUE TO A LOT OF Y'ALL HAVING A SOCCER TOURNAMENT. SO THE NEW DAY IS FRIDAY, JUNE 12!!!!!!!!!!

Camp Kayak Adventure

Time to work on our outdoor skills....

Who: Camp Half Blood Demi-Gods, chaperones – at least 1 other adult besides Ms. Vandor.
If we do not get at least one other chaperone, I will not be attending.

What: Kayak trip down the Thornapple River

When: Friday, June 12, 2009 beginning at 10 am, be there at 9:45 am

Where: 805 W. Apple St. Hastings, Michigan 49058 (269) 945-3191

Cost: $15 / per person / per kayak – (Julie from “U-Rent-Em Canoe Livery” quoted me at this group rate)
http://urentemcanoe.com/index.html

How it works: Meet at the downtown Hastings location at 9:45 am. The shuttle will bring us and all our gear to the kayak launch near Charlton Park. We will get a quick, free kayak lesson for those of us [like me] who have never done this before. Then, we will be set free to go down the river! We have 3.5 - 4 hours to kayak, stop to fish, hang out, eat, swim, etc. If we are not back within the 4 hours, we may have to pay extra!!!!! Be sure someone is there to pick you up around 2-2:30-ish??

Suggestions on what to bring: insect repellent, sun screen, lip balm, hat / visor, sunglasses with a strap, long sleeve shirt or plastic poncho, cooler, food and drink, water, water proof containers, beach towel, water shoes, sandals, or sneakers, fishing gear. Flip Flops are NOT recommended.

I would like to have your parent/guardian sign off / call / email me about this if you are planning to attend. I want them to be aware that I will be looking after you, but that I cannot physically be responsible for everyone at every single moment of the trip. I am leaving it up to you all to be responsible, mature, Camp Half Blood Demi-Gods. If you cannot swim, I suggest you do NOT attend this outing.

Mythology Enrichment - Sign Up Now!

Remember - If CHB members sign up we will do different things than we did in camp. If there only a few CHB's and newer members, CHB's will help me lead the summer enrichment!

Mythology

Tuesdays, June 16 – July 14, 10:45 am – 12:15 pm

Held at the Middle School

$50 registration fee

Zeus, Athena, The Minotaur – Greek Mythology is the oldest form of drama – full of suspense, tragedy, love, war, jealousy…it’s an ancient soap opera. In this enrichment we will learn the basics of Greek Mythology such as: Who were the Greek gods, goddesses, and heroes; learn and play with the Greek alphabet; make up our own Greek myths; and many other cool, artsy projects. We may make Medusa masks, reed flutes, and PowerPoint presentations honoring just one of the many Greek gods! The class will be taught by TK teacher Ms. Vandor.

My New Riddle!!!

Hello TK Half-bloods! I've got a new riddle for you guys. If you think you know the answer, you can comment. Good Luck!

I never was, am always to be,
No one ever saw me, nor ever will.

We Need to Get this Book....

http://www.teenlibris.com/teenlibris2_Demigods.html

WOW. How COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things I need

1. Everyone's emails for summer activities / updates

2. Everyone's "secret codes" / signatures - you know...what you decided to be your "alias" name in Greek....I only have some of yours, so try to get those to me in school before you leave for summer!!!!

NEW BOOKS

I spent my Friday night at Barnes and Noble tonight. Got some more mythology books! Cannot wait to bring them in the class room so y'all can check them out! Woo Hoo!  Here are the books I got:

Graphic Novel: Odysseus Escaping Poseidon's Curse

The Shadow Thieves - "What if Greek Myths were real?"

Graphic Novel Theseus Battling The Minotaur - I think the Minotaur was given a bad rap...I kind of like him....

The Kingdom Keepers - Ok, so this one is not about mythology, but I thought it looked cool. It's about some kids that get locked in Disney's Magic Kingdom...and have to deal with things like the Pirates from the Caribbean, figurines from It's a Small World, and ghosts from the Haunted Mansion! How cool?!?! I love Disney, so I had to get this one!

Tales of the Greek Heroes - with and introduction by no other than RICK RIORDAN - Mythology adventures and stories, but told in a more up-to-date way.

Graphic Novel Perseus The Hunt for Medusa's Head - now, since I read the book Corydon and the Island of the Monsters, I have a different view of who Medusa and Perseus really were. Was Perseus really a hero? Or was he a wimp? Was Medusa really a monster, or a kind woman who had been cursed? Hmm....

Pandora Gets Jealous - I think I had this one already in my classroom, but I got another copy. It's Pandy's story--but told in a more "fun" and modern way!

The Twilight Prisoner - Last but not least....I know AO and A&W RootBeer might fight over this book on Monday...the sequel to The Night Tourist....Jack Perdue (No, not PURDUE, my favorite...unfortunately...) and Cora, from his Latin class hit it off......and get stuck in the Underworld!
